19-Year-Old Yousef Salaman Fatally Shot in East Ottawa, Community Expresses Shock and Concern

Ottawa, Ontario – In a tragic incident late Friday night, 19-year-old Yousef Salaman was fatally shot on the 1800 block of Russell Road in East Ottawa, near the Dempsey Community Centre. The shooting occurred around 10 p.m., leaving the local community in shock and mourning.

According to residents in the area, multiple gunshots were heard, followed by the sounds of someone in distress. Claude St-Germain, a nearby resident, described the terrifying moment when he heard the gunfire and the subsequent cries for help. He expressed deep concern about the rising frequency of such violent incidents in the community.

Dorine Laprade, who knew Salaman personally, remembered him as a kind and respectful young man. She expressed her sorrow and disbelief at the sudden loss of a life so young. The community is grappling with the impact of this senseless violence, which has become an alarming trend in recent times.

Ottawa Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities report that the shooter fled the scene immediately after the attack. Alta Vista Councillor Marty Carr addressed the community’s growing concerns, highlighting the troubling pattern of youth violence in the area. Carr called for increased preventative measures and support programs to curb the rising tide of violence.

Laprade echoed these sentiments, urging for urgent action to address the escalating violence that has left the community reeling. As the investigation continues, residents are left to mourn the loss of Yousef Salaman, whose life was tragically cut short.
