21-Year-Old College Athlete Christion Tucker Fatally Shot Inside Vehicle on Chicago’s South Side; Family Offers $10K Reward for Information

Chicago, IL – The Chicago community is in mourning after the tragic shooting of 21-year-old college athlete Christion Tucker, who was fatally shot inside his vehicle on Saturday evening in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. on the 7200 block of South Washtenaw Avenue.

Tucker, a promising basketball player at a junior college with aspirations to transfer to a four-year university, was sitting in his car when he was shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving his family and the local community devastated by the sudden loss.

Pastor Corey Brooks, a well-known advocate against gun violence in Chicago, confirmed that Tucker was his godson. Brooks expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Tucker as a "great kid" with a bright future. "He wasn’t involved in gangs or criminal activity; he was just waiting in his car when someone took his life," Brooks said. "This was her 21-year-old son—a really, really good kid."

The tragic incident underscores the ongoing issue of gun violence in Chicago, an issue Pastor Brooks has long been dedicated to combating. "When it happens to someone close to you, it makes you realize just how much work there is still to do," Brooks remarked.

In their quest for justice, Tucker’s family has announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. As of now, the Chicago police are actively investigating the case, but no arrests have been made. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to the grieving family.

The loss of Christion Tucker is a stark reminder of the toll that gun violence continues to take on the lives of young people and their communities. His family, determined to honor his memory, remains hopeful that justice will be served.
