Betty Browning Gilbert, 84, of Gilbert, WV, Passes Away, Leaving a Legacy of Love and Dedication to Family

Betty Louise (Harmon) Browning, a beloved resident of Gilbert, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 84. She died at Logan Regional Medical Center. Born on June 11, 1940, in Mallory, WV, Betty was the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Pearl (Bowman) Harmon.

Betty is remembered not only for her career as a dedicated store manager in the retail sector but also for her deep love of flowers, shopping, word puzzles, beach visits, and most importantly, her cherished time with family and friends. She was an active member of the Bruno Church of God, where she found joy in the fellowship of her church family.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Browning; her son, William David Lester; her sisters, Billie Paynter and Virginia Laseff; her brother, Homer Harmon; and her grandson, William David “Dink” Lester, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Dreama (Douglas) Williamson of Verner, WV, and Deborah Buchanan of Williamson, WV; her sons, Leslie (Treena) Lester and Jeremy Dale (Jackie) Browning, both of Verner, WV; and stepsons, James Larkin (Kim) Browning, Jr., and DeWayne Browning, both of Ohio. Betty’s legacy also lives on through her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss her greatly.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Mounts Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor Roger Frye officiating. Burial will follow at the Browning-Dye Cemetery in Verner, WV. Friends and family may gather from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the chapel to pay their respects.

Betty Browning will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her wonderful smile and gentle heart left an indelible mark on her community.

Sheriffs Chaplain Ray Toler shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, reflecting the sentiments of many who knew Betty.
