Lebanon, Virginia – Bill Akers, a respected leader in the emergency medical services (EMS) community and Director of the Southwest Virginia Paramedic Program, has passed away. His sudden death has left family, friends, and colleagues heartbroken, as they mourn the loss of a man who was deeply committed to his community and profession.

Bill Akers was a prominent figure in the EMS field, known for his extensive knowledge, leadership, and compassionate care. He served as a mentor, teacher, and friend to many, influencing countless lives through his dedication to the profession. As a Flight Medic with Virginia State Police Med Flight II, Bill was known for his bravery and grace, always ready to assist those in need.

Ann Tim Vencill, a close colleague, shared her thoughts on Facebook, describing the impact Bill had on the Lebanon Lifesaving Crew. "Bill Akers, you were such an important man, and I don’t think you knew just how much. You were the heart of Lebanon Lifesaving Crew. You made us proud to put that uniform on. You were always calm and collected, no matter the situation. You made an impact in each of our lives, the EMS field, and our community."
