Armagh, Northern Ireland – Caolan Finnegan, a promising young athlete from the Armagh community, passed away this morning at the age of 20 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Known affectionately as “Stringer,” Caolan was a beloved figure who made significant contributions to his local sports teams, including Pearse Óg Armagh GFC and Cross Rangers.
Caolan’s untimely death has deeply affected the local community. A talented player, he represented Armagh, Crossmaglen, and St Colman’s Newry. Despite his illness, Caolan continued to inspire those around him with his dedication and fighting spirit. His determination and love for the game made him a role model both on and off the field.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media, highlighting the impact Caolan had on those who knew him. Thomas Niblock wrote, "Life is beyond cruel. A fine man, from a brilliant family, Caolán Finnegan died this morning. A brilliant kid. Represented Armagh, Crossmaglen & St Colman’s Newry and had health been different, wouldn’t have had an All-Ireland medal this year. Tried everything to fight off Brain cancer. A warrior on the field and off it. A role model for us all. Just so so sad. He was just 20 years old."
