Catherine McHale, Beloved Founder of Royal Gaels Ladies Club, Passes Away at 67 in Dunshaughlin

Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, Ireland – Catherine McHale, a cherished resident of Derrockstown and a foundational figure in the Royal Gaels Ladies Club, has passed away at the age of 67. Catherine, who was known for her dedication and warmth, died peacefully after a brief illness under the compassionate care of the staff at Elm Ward, Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown.

Catherine McHale was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She leaves behind her husband Paddy, and their five children: Padraig, Michael, Ciara, Joseph, and Mary. Catherine’s legacy continues through her grandchildren and extended family members, who mourn her deeply.

A pioneer in women’s football in Dunshaughlin, Catherine was instrumental in establishing the Royal Gaels Ladies Club in 1995. She served as the club’s chairperson until 2006 and remained an active committee member for many years, making significant contributions to the community and the sport she loved.

Tributes have poured in from community members and friends, reflecting the deep impact Catherine had on those around her. Eimear Flynn-Mcmahon commented, "Such sad news in the village. Catherine touched the hearts of everyone she met." Orlagh Mc Laughlin added, "Thank you, Catherine, for all you did for ladies football in Dunshaughlin. A lovely woman who will be greatly missed."

Catherine’s funeral arrangements have been set, with a repose at McEntaggart’s Funeral Home in Dunshaughlin on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in S.S. Patrick and Seachnall’s Church, Dunshaughlin, followed by burial in Derrockstown Cemetery.

Catherine McHale’s passing is a significant loss to her family, friends, and the broader Dunshaughlin community. Her kindness, dedication, and joyful spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know her. May she rest in peace.
