Charles Howard Lamon, Beloved Deshler High School Alumnus and Dedicated Community Leader, Passes Away at 77

Tuscumbia, Alabama – Charles Howard Lamon, affectionately known as Sam, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. A respected figure in his community, Charles was 77 years old.

Born on September 27, 1946, to Marlin and Lorene Lamon in Jefferson County, Charles was a proud graduate of Deshler High School. Following his graduation, he immediately joined the Army National Guard in February 1964, dedicating over four decades to his country until his retirement as Command Sergeant Major in September 2006. His military service was distinguished by numerous accolades, including the Legion of Merit and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.

Beyond his military career, Charles worked with the Southern Bell Telephone Company, completed the IBEW Apprenticeship Program, and served as an electrician at Ford Motor Company. His leadership extended into his role as UAW Bargain Chairman and later as Assistant Business Agent at IBEW 558, retiring in 2016.

Charles’s commitment to his community was unwavering. He served on the Tuscumbia City Council, coached local sports teams, and was an active member of the DHS Quarterback Club. His dedication to family was evident in the way he and his wife, Judy Paden Lamon, of 58 years, supported their granddaughters in all their endeavors.

He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Howard Lamon and Suzanne Lamon Browning, as well as his sisters, Cathy Lamon Crosswhite and Debra Elaine Lamon. His legacy lives on through his four granddaughters and extended family, including nieces, nephews, and great-great-nephews and nieces.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church of Tuscumbia, followed by a service officiated by Alan Beasley and Barrett Long. Charles will be laid to rest at Colbert Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the First Methodist Church Hymn Fund in Tuscumbia.

Charles Howard Lamon will be remembered for his exceptional service, deep commitment to family, and his significant contributions to the Tuscumbia community. His legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew him.
