Colorado Springs, Colorado – The community is mourning the loss of Otis Forrest Jr., who tragically passed away in a paddle boarding accident at Rampart Reservoir on August 24, 2024. Otis, known for his bright and joyful spirit, left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Otis was described as a tall, athletic, and free-spirited individual who radiated happiness and kindness. He had a love for adventure, often seen with his rescue dogs, Roscoe and Archie, exploring the outdoors through activities like hiking, playing frisbee golf, and paddle boarding.
Friends and family are deeply saddened by the loss of Otis, who is survived by his parents, Otis Forrest Sr. and Jacque Forrest, his brother Theo Forrest, his girlfriend Kiara, and his beloved dog Archie. He also leaves behind many extended family members and a large circle of friends.
A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Sheryl Smith to support the Forrest family during this difficult time. The fundraiser, titled "Support the Forrest Family After Tragic Loss," has raised $1,995 of its $10,000 goal so far, with 21 donations. The top donation of $700 was made by Gail Smith.
Sophia Parker, a friend of Otis, shared her thoughts on Facebook, saying, "I played hockey with Otis… he was the kindest hockey player I ever played with and I always knew he had my back. I’m so sorry to the family for their loss."
A celebration of Otis’s life is being planned, with details to be announced.
