Commemorative Fundraiser Launched to Honor Susan Bonnem at the Chicago Botanic Garden

Wheaton, IL – A heartfelt fundraiser has been launched in memory of Susan Bonnem, a beloved mother and grandmother, who passed away on August 26, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. The fundraiser, organized by Elissa Rasch and three others, aims to honor Susan’s deep passion for nature by dedicating a commemorative gift at the Chicago Botanic Garden, a place that held special meaning to her.

The initial goal of the fundraiser was to raise enough funds to engrave a commemorative brick in Susan’s honor, which would be laid in the garden this fall. Thanks to the overwhelming support from family and friends, this goal was quickly achieved. The brick will be placed in one of the garden’s cherished spots, such as the Rose Garden, McGinley Path, Commemorative Garden, or Visitor Center.

In response to the continued outpouring of love and support, the fundraiser’s goal has now been increased to $7,000. The additional funds will go towards installing a commemorative bench within the Chicago Botanic Garden, providing a lasting tribute where Susan’s memory can be cherished by all who visit. If the new goal is not met, the funds will be allocated towards a second brick to be laid in March 2025, garden bulbs, or a donation in Susan’s name to the garden.

As of today, the fundraiser has raised $1,430, with contributions still being accepted until Susan’s heavenly birthday on September 30th. Every donation, regardless of size, will contribute to ensuring that Susan’s memory continues to bloom in a place she adored.

The fundraising team, including Jennifer Glennon, Katie Cocanig, and Kristen Tepper, extends their gratitude to all who have donated and supported the cause.
