Gerrardstown, West Virginia – The search for Mary Jean Beatty, missing since March 4, 2011, continues as the community remains hopeful for answers. Mary was last seen leaving her home on Jenkins Road in Bunker Hill, and despite numerous efforts, she has not been seen or heard from since that day.
Mary Jean Beatty, who was 56 years old at the time of her disappearance, is described as having blonde but graying hair, blue eyes, and standing between 5’7" and 5’8" tall. Her weight ranged between 190 to 210 pounds, and she required glasses for reading. She also had distinctive tattoos, including a Pegasus on her inner ankle with three stars and a butterfly on her upper cleavage area that had been burned by scalding hot water. In addition, she bore a C-section scar on her abdomen and another scar on her forehead.
Mary was known to use the aliases Alice Cook and Carol Martin, and although she had a history of staying away for days or weeks at a time, her prolonged absence without any contact has left her loved ones and the community deeply concerned.
The local community has continued to share information and keep her case alive, hoping to bring closure to this cold case. Comments on social media reflect the community’s ongoing concern and speculation.
Barbara Crawford shared her thoughts, while Tam Robinette expressed her sadness, saying, "She looks so familiar. Maybe I worked somewhere with her, back in the day. Truly sad." Luke Schmitz added a chilling remark, "Someone’s concrete patio or driveway is more than meets the eye." Others, like Ashlee Alderman, simply echoed the sentiment, "So sad."
Despite the years that have passed, the search for Mary Jean Beatty remains active. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office or WV Crime Stoppers. The community continues to hope that someday, answers will be found, and Mary’s loved ones can find the closure they seek.
