Corpus Christi, Texas – A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, leading to the arrest of 33-year-old Hilda Ann Adame. Adame, a resident of Corpus Christi, was taken into custody after her 22-month-old child was found unresponsive in a hot car parked at Tom Browne Middle School.
The Corpus Christi Police Department received an emergency call around 1:29 p.m., reporting the child’s condition. Upon arrival, officers found a school nurse desperately performing CPR on the infant. Despite the nurse’s efforts, the child could not be saved.
Adame now faces serious charges, including abandonment/endangerment of a child with imminent danger and injury to a child/elderly/disabled with intent to cause serious bodily injury. Her bail has been set at $900,000 in total.
The incident has sparked a wave of emotional responses on social media, with many expressing outrage and heartbreak over the child’s death. Facebook users have not held back their feelings, with comments ranging from disbelief to anger.

Leanne Libby, Chief Communications Officer of CCISD, expressed the district’s sorrow and thanked all those who responded quickly to the incident. The district has also provided counseling services to students and staff in the wake of the tragedy.
