David Sims and Lupe Ortiz Killed in Butte County Truck Crash; Driver Convicted of Vehicular Manslaughter

Butte County, California – David Sims and Lupe Ortiz, both 55 and residents of Los Molinos, tragically lost their lives in a fatal truck crash at the intersection of Highway 99 and Neal Road. The incident occurred in June 2020 when a semi-truck driver collided with vehicles that had come to a halt at the intersection.

The driver, 26-year-old Jobanjit Singh from Sacramento, has now been convicted of vehicular manslaughter for his role in the crash. The conviction came after a misdemeanor jury trial on August 26, 2024.

Singh is scheduled to be sentenced on October 22, 2024. The tragic accident that took the lives of David Sims and Lupe Ortiz has had a lasting impact on the Los Molinos community, and the conviction marks a significant step in the legal proceedings related to the crash.
