Donna M. Pollitt, Beloved "Queen of Oakland Avenue," Passes Away at 85 in Pawtucket, RI

Pawtucket, RI – Donna M. Pollitt, affectionately known as "The Queen of Oakland Avenue," passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the age of 85. Donna was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket and was deeply cherished by her community.

Born to Austin, Sr. and Marion (Green) Thorpe, Donna dedicated her life to her family and community. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmund J. Pollitt, Jr., who predeceased her in January 2000. Throughout her career, Donna worked for several local companies, including Hasbro, Allied Fashion, NEPTCO, and Stop and Shop.

Donna was known for her vibrant personality and love for life. She enjoyed visiting casinos, participating in card leagues, and playing board games like "Rummikub" with her family and friends. Donna was also an enthusiastic bowler, sharing many joyful moments in the bowling alleys with her late husband, Ed. Her favorite television show was Judge Judy, which she followed religiously.

Donna’s passion for swimming began during summer vacations at Bay Springs and Barrington, and she was a devoted member of the Seekonk Swim & Tennis Club. Her love for Christmas was evident in her meticulous preparations, often completing her holiday shopping well in advance.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and care, survived by her five children, thirteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Donna was also preceded in death by her siblings Barbara LaFountaine, Austin Thorpe, Jr., Donald Thorpe, and Sandra McGee. Her loyal companion, her dog Jingles, brought her great joy in her later years.

Funeral services for Donna M. Pollitt will be held on Thursday, August 29th, beginning at 10 a.m. at WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home in Pawtucket. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish in Seekonk. She will be laid to rest at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery in Pawtucket. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish. Donna’s memory will be forever cherished by all who knew her.
