Green Valley, Illinois – Elmer Papenhause, a 90-year-old resident of rural Tremont, tragically lost his life in a two-vehicle accident on Saturday, August 24, 2024. The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Towerline Road and Toboggan Avenue in rural Green Valley.
Elmer Papenhause was pronounced deceased at the scene at 12:29 p.m. by Tazewell County Coroner Charles R. Hanley. The preliminary autopsy, conducted on Monday, revealed that Mr. Papenhause died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the collision. He was the sole occupant of his pickup truck at the time of the accident.
The crash also involved another pickup truck carrying four occupants, who were all transported to a hospital in Peoria for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
Authorities were alerted to the accident at 11:16 a.m. The incident is currently under investigation by the Illinois State Police, Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office.
