La Salle, Illinois – A tragic accident on Interstate 80 has claimed the life of 47-year-old David Biggane from La Salle. The fatal collision, which involved a minivan and a semi-trailer, occurred on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, shortly before noon.
According to initial reports from the Grundy County Coroner’s Office, Biggane was traveling eastbound on I-80 when his vehicle struck the rear of a semi-trailer. Despite the swift response from emergency services, Biggane was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning to determine the exact cause of death.
The crash caused significant disruptions, with eastbound lanes of I-80 closed for nearly five hours as authorities investigated. Westbound traffic near the scene was temporarily redirected at the Seneca exit onto Seneca Road to alleviate congestion and assist with the investigation.
