He was known for his dedication to public service, having served as the Sheriff of Crockett County for 23 years, leaving an indelible mark on the community he deeply loved.
Born on February 21, 1961, in Ozona, Shane was the youngest of three children. His early years were spent in the embrace of his family, engaging in activities like baseball, football, and bull riding. His passion for the outdoors stayed with him throughout his life, passing it on to his children and grandchildren.
Shane’s love story with his wife, Peri, began when they were just two years old. This childhood friendship grew into a lifelong bond, and their marriage blossomed into a 43-year journey filled with love and devotion. Together, they raised two children, Koby and Peyton, and were blessed with six grandchildren who were the light of Shane’s life.
During his tenure as sheriff from 1997 to 2008, Shane was respected for his unwavering commitment to the safety of Crockett County’s residents. His leadership was characterized by honesty, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility. His contributions to the community extended beyond law enforcement, as he was also a past president of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas and an active member of the Ozona Church of Christ.
The memorial service for Shane Fenton will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 1:30 PM at the Ozona Church of Christ. The service will be officiated by Gary Vannoy, with a luncheon and visitation with the family starting at noon.
