George Wylie Passes Away Peacefully at Altnagelvin Hospital; Eglinton Community Mourns

Eglinton, Northern Ireland – The community of Eglinton is mourning the loss of George Wylie, who passed away peacefully at Altnagelvin Hospital on August 26, 2024. George was a beloved figure, known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for his family and friends.

George Wylie was the devoted husband of Sheila, and the loving father of Clive and Derek. He was also a cherished brother to David and Myra, and is predeceased by his siblings Gladys, Billy, Sadie, and Lena. George’s warmth and integrity touched the lives of many, making him a much-loved uncle and friend.

His remains will be reposing at his home, located at 10 Station Road, Eglinton, starting from 5 p.m. on Monday. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., beginning at his residence and proceeding to Faughanvale Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the adjoining burying ground following the service.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cancer Research, reflecting George’s lifelong commitment to helping others.

Tributes have poured in on Facebook, with many expressing their sorrow and sharing fond memories of George. Jillian Burns wrote, "Sorry to hear this, thoughts are with the family circle x." Orlaith McClay shared, "Was such a pleasure to have cared for u George, such fond memories with u twinkle toes." Sharon Hylands commented, "So sorry to hear about George, he was such a lovely man and will be sorely missed, thinking of all the family at this sad time xx." Jeanette Kelly added, "Sad news this morning, RIP Uncle George."

George Wylie’s passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit will continue to inspire and live on.
