Glen Kaw, 78, of Junction City, Dies in Tragic Three-Vehicle Crash in Manhattan, Kansas

Glen B. Kaw, a 78-year-old resident of Junction City, was tragically killed in a three-vehicle rollover crash in Manhattan, Kansas, on Thursday, August 22, 2024. The accident occurred at the intersection of Seth Child Road and Anderson Avenue, a busy area that was closed for nearly five hours following the collision.

The crash happened at approximately 1:34 p.m. when a white Honda Civic, traveling eastbound on Anderson Avenue, collided with a green Chevrolet Equinox attempting to make a left turn onto Seth Child Road. The impact caused the Equinox, in which Glen Kaw was a passenger, to roll over. Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene, but despite being rushed to Ascension Via Christi Hospital, Glen Kaw was later pronounced dead.

Karen Kaw, Glen’s 77-year-old wife, who was driving the Equinox, sustained serious injuries in the crash. She was airlifted to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, where her current condition remains uncertain. The driver of the Honda Civic, Ronni Combs, 41, of Riley, Kansas, was also hospitalized, but details about her injuries have not been released.

A third vehicle, a Ford Focus driven by 35-year-old Jake Huber of Manhattan, was also involved in the crash. Huber managed to drive himself to the hospital for treatment, though the specifics of his condition are unknown.

The accident has deeply affected the local community, with many mourning the loss of Glen Kaw, a respected and beloved member of Junction City. The Riley County Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident and has not yet determined whether any charges will be filed.

On social media, many expressed their sorrow and condolences for the Kaw family. Lynn Waack wrote, "Prayers for the family and friends. Others, like Natasha Baker, commented, "So heartbreaking," and Karen Finnesy Polson called the incident a "Horrible tragedy." Some, like Sue Downing Jacobs, sought to correct reports, noting, "His last name is RAW not Kaw!!"

This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers on the roads, particularly at busy intersections. The community’s thoughts are with the Kaw family during this difficult time, as well as with those injured in the crash.
