Greenville Resident Ernest Berry Sibert Jr. Identified as Victim in Dorsey Boulevard Shooting

Greenville, SC – Tragedy struck the Greenville community as 55-year-old Ernest Berry Sibert Jr. was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting on Dorsey Boulevard. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, August 25, 2024, around 9:10 p.m., has left the neighborhood in shock.

Emergency responders were called to the scene after Greenville County Emergency Communications received a report of a gunshot wound in the area. Upon arrival, deputies found Sibert on the front porch of a home, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead despite medical efforts.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the deceased as Ernest Berry Sibert Jr. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on August 26, 2024, to further determine the cause and manner of his death.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing, with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office working closely with the coroner’s office. At this time, no further details have been released regarding the events leading up to the shooting, and authorities have not disclosed whether any suspects have been identified.

The community is mourning the loss of Sibert, with residents of Dorsey Boulevard expressing concern over the violence. A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, shared, "It’s scary to think something like this could happen so close to home. We just want to feel safe in our neighborhood."
