Harrodsburg, Kentucky – The Harrodsburg community is mourning the loss of James Givens Ingram, a beloved local leader and dedicated family man, who passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Baptist Health Lexington.
Born on June 1, 1936, in Harrodsburg, KY, James Givens Ingram was the son of the late Samuel Givens and Ruth (McDonald) Ingram. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Janet Thomas Ingram. Jim, as he was affectionately known, was deeply committed to his family, church, and the well-being of his community.
Jim’s influence in Harrodsburg was profound. A devoted member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he served as an elder and former chairman of the board, leaving a legacy of faith and leadership. His dedication extended to the local healthcare system, where he served as chairman of the James B Haggin Hospital Board from 1988 to 2017, demonstrating his commitment to the health and welfare of the community.
In addition to his community service, Jim had a distinguished academic and professional career. He was a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky and a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He furthered his education with an MBA from Stanford University. Jim’s professional journey began with roles at Arthur Andersen in Indiana and C&S Bank in Atlanta, but he eventually returned to his hometown in 1977 to become the President and CEO of Mercer County National Bank, reflecting his enduring dedication to Harrodsburg.
Jim is survived by his three daughters, Dianne Oliverio, Dawn Olive, and Debbie Souder; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Genie Whayne, and other close family members.
The community has expressed its deep sorrow and shared fond memories of Jim on social media. Joy Burgin Stevens remembered him as "a great family man who loved his church and community." Chad Worthington described him as "such a sweet and loyal man," while Lela Crossfield reflected on his contributions, noting, "Mr. Ingram was such a fine man… an asset to our community. He served on the Haggin Hospital Board for many years and truly cared for our community hospital."
Other tributes poured in, with people recalling his kindness, leadership, and the positive impact he had on those around him. Vicki Mackey expressed, "So very sorry for your loss Debbie and family. Your dad was a fine gentleman. Prayers for all of you for peace and comfort during this difficult time."
A funeral service for James Givens Ingram will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Harrodsburg Christian Church. The service will be officiated by Micki McHugh, with burial to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church.
