Houghton Lake, Michigan – The community of Houghton Lake is mourning the loss of Thomas Leon Beerens, who passed away at the age of 51 on August 26, 2024, in Falmouth. Born on June 12, 1973, in Grayling to Larry and Darlene Beerens, Tom was a devoted husband, father, and cherished friend to many.
Tom married Amy Michelle Hodges on August 23, 2001, in Roscommon, and together they built a life filled with love, family, and shared adventures. He was known for his strong faith and kind heart, traits that were evident to everyone who knew him. Tom worked as a truck driver for Cook Forest Products and was actively involved in his community, attending The Grove in Lake City.
An outdoorsman at heart, Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing for walleye in Saginaw Bay, and participating in motocross with his children. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and was a role model to both his family and friends. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones.
Tom is survived by his wife, Amy Michelle Beerens, and their children: Michelle Ely, Sarah Jiles, Martin Jiles, Trevor Beerens, and Samantha Beerens. He is also survived by his parents, Larry and Darlene Beerens, his siblings, and many extended family members. Tom’s legacy of kindness and love will be forever remembered by all who knew him.
The news of Tom’s passing has brought an outpouring of support on social media. Jamie Ann expressed her sorrow, writing, “It is with a heavy heart I share my brother-in-law Tom passed away yesterday. Please keep my sister Amy Beerens, their kids, Toms parents, his siblings, and all who loved him in your thoughts and prayers.” Other friends and family members also shared their condolences, including Jennifer Smith, who posted, “Prayers and I’m very sorry for your loss,” and Dee Cusmano, who added, “So sorry for your loss sending prayers for you and the family.”
A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at The Grove in Lake City, with Rev. Doug Boonstra officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain. Tom will be laid to rest at Falmouth Cemetery.
