New Albany, Indiana – On August 10, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded as 25-year-old Kaitlynn Lee, a mother of three, was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend, Joshua Thompson, while she was filming a TikTok video with a friend in her apartment. The shocking event has left the community in mourning and raised concerns about domestic violence.
According to reports, New Albany Police responded to a shot-fired report at Lee’s residence early that morning. They discovered Kaitlynn Lee deceased from gunshot wounds. Lee’s friend, who was with her at the time, informed investigators that they were in the kitchen filming a TikTok video when they heard a tapping on the window. Before Lee could react, Thompson, who had a history of conflicts with her, allegedly shot her two or three times.
Lee’s friend stated to the police that just before the shooting, she heard Lee ask Thompson, “What are you doing here?” The friend also described seeing Thompson standing outside the window with a gun aimed at Lee.
Thompson, who had been in a toxic relationship with Lee, had reportedly caused her to relocate three times in the past four months due to his behavior. Despite an Emergency Protective Order (EPO) issued against him earlier this year, it tragically failed to protect her.
After the shooting, Thompson allegedly called his brother in tears, confessing to the crime. He then contacted the authorities, admitting he had shot Lee and stating his intention to turn himself in. Thompson was swiftly arrested and is now facing charges of murder.
The community has been deeply affected by this senseless act of violence. On Facebook, Sara Smialek expressed her sorrow and outrage, stating, "This woman was a MOTHER OF THREE BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN. That are now forever without a mother and (not sure if he’s their father) but possibly a father too."
