Jean-Jacques Gemme, 68, From Amherst, Quebec, Dies in Tragic Plane Crash at Haines Junction Airport

Haines Junction, Yukon – Jean-Jacques Gemme, a 68-year-old resident of Amherst, Quebec, tragically lost his life in a fatal plane crash earlier this week at Haines Junction Airport. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon during what was intended to be a scenic flight over the region.

Gemme was among six individuals aboard the small Cessna U206 aircraft, which was operated by Rocking Star Adventures, a company known for its glacier sight-seeing flights and air charter services. The plane crashed shortly after 3:30 p.m., colliding with the terrain on the airport grounds. The circumstances leading to the crash are currently under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board (TSB), the RCMP, and the Yukon Coroner’s Service.

The Yukon Coroner’s Service confirmed that Gemme had been traveling since May 4, having embarked on a journey through the western United States and Canada. His ultimate destination was Alaska, with Haines Junction being a scheduled stop on the route.

While the status of the other passengers remains unclear, reports indicated that medevac planes were deployed to the area following the crash. The local community and authorities are deeply saddened by the loss and are continuing to seek answers about what caused this tragic accident.
