Jim "Peashooter" Aitken, Beloved Community Member, Remembered for His Love of Animals in Sanford

Sanford, Florida – Jim "Peashooter" Aitken, a well-known and beloved figure in the Sanford community, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion, particularly for animals. His sudden departure has left friends and loved ones in mourning, as they remember the man who was more than just a regular at the local gas station but a cherished friend to many.

Peashooter, as he was affectionately known, touched many lives with his warmth and generosity. His friends and community members are honoring his memory by contributing to a cause close to his heart – helping animals. A GoFundMe fundraiser organized by Charles Aitken is currently raising money to support the Coles County Animal Shelter, a place Jim was passionate about.

The fundraiser, which started on August 18, 2024, has already raised $960 of its $1,000 goal through 12 donations. Contributors include individuals like Julie Acheson, who donated $20 just 36 minutes ago, and the Stone Templars, who gave $100 six hours ago. The community’s outpouring of support reflects the impact Jim had on those around him.

On Facebook, many have shared their memories and condolences. Jadyn Kolpin posted, "Peashooter started out as a regular at the gas station I worked at and then became a part of my life. He is an amazing person and an even better friend. I never thought he would leave us so soon but I hope he finds peace wherever he is. I love you, buddy, and I will always remember you as you were."

David Shores expressed his sorrow with a simple, "Sorry for your loss honey," while Aundee Coy responded to the heartfelt messages with "Beautifully said!!"

In memory of Jim "Peashooter" Aitken, the community is encouraged to donate to local animal shelters or those in their own communities. His love for animals continues to inspire others, even after his passing.

For those wishing to honor Jim’s memory, the family asks that instead of sending flowers, donations be made to help the animals he cared so much about. The fundraiser remains open as the community rallies to reach its goal and ensure that Jim’s legacy lives on through the support of the Coles County Animal Shelter.
