Georgetown, KY – A tragic accident on Sunday, August 25, 2024, claimed the life of Jonathan Hensley, a bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle on Ironworks Road near Grayson Way. The incident occurred at approximately 1:52 p.m. when Jessica Marshall, driving a 2005 Lexus, topped a hillcrest and collided with Hensley, who was traveling east on his bicycle.

Hensley was pronounced dead at the scene by Scott County Coroner Mark Sutton due to the severe injuries sustained in the crash. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office immediately called upon the Georgetown/Scott County Collision Investigation Unit to assist in the investigation, which remains ongoing.

The Scott County Fire Department, Georgetown/Scott County EMS, and the Scott County Coroner’s Office were also present at the scene, emphasizing the seriousness of the accident. The investigation aims to uncover the exact circumstances that led to this tragic event, with no conclusions yet reached regarding potential charges.

As the community mourns the loss of Jonathan Hensley, several individuals have taken to social media to express their sorrow and concerns. Mary L. Scott shared, "Prayers for all involved. RIP Mr. Hensley." Meanwhile, Cyndi Griffin noted, "Ironworks is an incredibly narrow and dangerous road. It has no shoulders and isn’t really a full two standard lanes in my opinion. The hills have blind spots. This is so sad and yet predictable with the state of the road."

Others emphasized the need for both drivers and cyclists to be more cautious on such roads. Dixon Butts commented, "Everyone is saying don’t ride a bike on the road OR OR Hear me out MAYBE stop looking at your phone and pay attention to driving?? Insane concept, I know."

As the investigation continues, the community is united in grief, with many hoping that this tragic accident will prompt greater attention to road safety.
