Joseph Vincent Summa and Joleen Cavaretta Weatherly Tragically Killed in Ector County Plane Crash, Authorities Investigating

ECTOR COUNTY, TX – Tragedy struck yesterday morning when a 1991 Cessna 550 aircraft crashed in Ector County, resulting in the deaths of both individuals on board. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that the crash occurred near Alderfer Avenue and East Yukon Street at approximately 6:59 AM.

The pilot, identified as 48-year-old Joseph Vincent Summa from Bellaire, Texas, and his passenger, 49-year-old Joleen Cavaretta Weatherly from Orange, Texas, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The plane, reportedly flying at a low altitude, struck a power line before crashing into a private alley. The crash caused significant destruction, impacting several homes, sheds, vehicles, and even a local restaurant.

Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis noted that Summa appeared to attempt to steer the plane away from nearby houses, potentially preventing further casualties. Following the crash, a fire erupted, exacerbated by explosions that ensued, causing additional damage. A woman was rescued from a burning mobile home and taken to the hospital, highlighting the intensity of the incident.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched an investigation into the crash, seeking to uncover the circumstances that led to the tragic event. Early reports suggest that the aircraft had difficulty gaining altitude after departing from an Odessa airport, which might have contributed to the fatal outcome.

On social media, the news has prompted an outpouring of reactions. Terell Demerson simply commented, "Sheesh," while Jessica E Hernandez and Selena Hernandez Karns also expressed their shock and sorrow on Facebook. The community continues to grapple with the sudden loss as authorities work to piece together the details of this devastating incident.
