Joseph William Ulreich, Renowned Golf Rules Official, Passes Away Peacefully at 82 in Aiken, South Carolina

Joseph William Ulreich, a beloved figure in the golf community and a devoted family man, passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of August 20, 2024. He was 82 years old. Joseph was born on December 30, 1941, in Chicago Heights, Illinois, to John George and Edith Lantham Ulreich.

Joseph bravely battled brain cancer in his final months, showing the same courage and resilience he had displayed throughout his life. His career in insurance management was marked by dedication and integrity, but it was his passion for golf that defined him to many.

A long-time member of the Woodside Golf Club, Joseph was not only an avid golfer but also a respected volunteer. He dedicated countless hours to the South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA) and the Georgia Golf Association (SCJGA), where his knowledge and fair judgment as a Rules Official earned him the Volunteer of the Year award. His contributions to these organizations were invaluable, leaving a lasting impact on the sport he loved.

Beyond his professional and volunteer accomplishments, Joseph was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynne Avilla Ulreich, his children Joseph William Ulreich, Jr. and Julia Lynne Ulreich, his brothers John G. Ulreich, Jr. and Douglas C. Ulreich, and his two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His dedication to his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held at the Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Aiken, South Carolina. In honor of Joseph’s courageous fight against cancer, the family requests that donations be made to the National Brain Tumor Society in lieu of flowers.

Joseph William Ulreich will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his love of golf, and his dedication to service. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
