Joshua Pedro Pelico and Three Others Fatally Shot in Pleasant Grove Park During Attempted Robbery in Dalton, Georgia

Dalton, Georgia – A tragic shooting at Pleasant Grove Park on Saturday night claimed the lives of four young men, including 19-year-old Joshua Pedro Pelico. Authorities have identified the other victims as David Antonio Delgadillo, 21, Daniel Segura Cruz, 17, and Robert Valencia, 18. The incident occurred around 11:14 p.m. on August 24, 2024.

Investigations reveal that Pelico and Delgadillo had arranged to meet with individuals from Rome, Georgia, at the park to conduct a transaction involving contraband. Both parties were armed, and an exchange of gunfire ensued, leading to the deaths of the four men.

A 16-year-old from Rome, Georgia, has been arrested and charged with four counts of felony murder in connection with the shooting. Sheriff Scott Chitwood indicated that the incident might have involved a pre-planned robbery, although authorities do not believe it is related to gang activity. The shooting is being treated as an isolated event.

The community is mourning the loss of these young lives. Kristen Durrant posted on Facebook, "Please send prayers for the families of David Antonio Delgadillo & Joshua Pedro Pelico. They both were murdered in an attempted robbery Saturday night in Dalton, Ga. We’re praying that you find a way to get through this trying time."

Other community members expressed their grief and support. Chandra Robbins wrote, "So sad," while Melissa Green added, "Prayers for all them kids." Lexie Frye shared, "This literally breaks my heart man."

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
