Somerset, Massachusetts – Kathleen Lennon Arruda, a cherished member of the Somerset community, passed away yesterday morning at the age of 75 after a long battle with illness. Her death has brought a wave of sorrow to family and friends who remember her for her loving and generous spirit.
Kathleen was known for her deep love for people, which she demonstrated through her affection for her family, friends, and even the nursing home staff who cared for her in her later years. Her son, Joe Arruda, expressed the depth of his loss on Facebook, saying, “My mother loved people. Her family, her children, her sister, her brothers. Her friends, our friends, co-workers, and, at the end, nurses, CNAs, and other nursing home staff.” He added, “To her, dogs were the best kind of people.”
One of Joe’s favorite memories of his mother is their family tradition of watching “It’s a Wonderful Life” every Christmas. Kathleen’s emotional connection to the film became a cherished family ritual, as her children would watch her cry at the happy ending, a tradition that continues with Joe’s own family.
Kathleen’s selflessness and dedication to her family were a defining aspect of her life. Joe recalled, “She was better than George Bailey. She gave everything up to make us happy and keep us safe.”
Kathleen’s passing has touched many, and messages of condolence have poured in. Samantha McMahon commented, “So sorry for your loss!” while Michael Hughes shared, “Joey I’m so sorry. She loved Speedy very much. I’m thinking of you all.” Walter Sylvia added his voice, stating, “I am so sorry Joe. My condolences.”
