Kirk Mitchell Dies After Tragic Accident in Clarendon; Community Mourns and Demands Justice

Clarendon, Jamaica – Kirk Mitchell, a resident of Clarendon, has tragically passed away after being electrocuted by a falling JPS utility pole. The incident occurred on August 3rd while Mitchell was riding his motorcycle along the main road in Banks, Race Course. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, Mitchell succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

Eyewitnesses reported that two residents who tried to help Mitchell also received electrical shocks, highlighting the dangerous situation caused by the utility pole. This tragic accident has sparked outrage and calls for accountability from the Jamaica Public Service (JPS).

On Facebook, many expressed their sorrow and called for action. Jamar Netherland wrote, “Come on family, don’t play with JPS. This is millions of dollars if not billion dollar lawsuit!!” Shadana Mcleish-Farquharson added, “Condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” emphasizing the need for proper checks and balances before restoring electricity. Jacqueline Scott-Lawrence commented, “This should bring the biggest lawsuit in the history of Jamaica. Sadly it won’t bring back the deceased but watch how JPS go shake up.”

The community is mourning the loss of Kirk Mitchell, who leaves behind three children. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started by Christopher Henry to help with Mitchell’s memorial and expenses. Henry, a friend of the deceased, urged the community to support the family in their time of need.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the maintenance and safety of utility poles in Jamaica, prompting calls for stricter regulations and accountability from JPS. Many are demanding justice for Kirk Mitchell and are hoping that this tragedy will lead to significant changes to prevent future incidents.
