Markham, Ontario – The tragic death of Yuk-Ying Anita Mui, a 56-year-old real estate agent from Markham, has sent shockwaves through the local community and beyond. After being reported missing on August 9, 2024, Mui’s remains were discovered by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Parry Sound on August 12. The discovery has left her family, friends, and colleagues in deep sorrow.
Mui was last seen by her family at 9:30 a.m. on the day of her disappearance, leaving her home near Baycliffe Road and Warden Avenue. Contact with her was lost at 11 a.m., and concern grew as she did not return home. The situation took a devastating turn when burned human remains were found on a property on Avro Arrow Road in Parry Sound, later identified as those of Mui.
York Regional Police, who have been leading the investigation, arrested three teenage suspects in connection with Mui’s disappearance. These suspects, two from Toronto and one from Whitby, were found in possession of items belonging to Mui. Although they are facing charges related to weapons possession and fraud under $5,000, no direct charges have been made concerning Mui’s death as the investigation continues.
A white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van has been identified as a vehicle of interest, believed to have been used to transport Mui after her disappearance. Police are urging anyone who may have seen this vehicle in the Stouffville or Parry Sound areas between August 9 and 12 to come forward. Additionally, Mui’s own vehicle, a 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 SUV, was found near Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue, adding more complexity to the case.
The news of Mui’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief on social media, particularly from her colleagues in the real estate community.
Andrew Holenchuk, a fellow realtor, shared on Facebook, "A sad reminder to my real estate community of the importance of safety, knowing your client and surroundings. This hits home… and to realtor Yuk-Ying Anita Mui who is no longer with us… may you RIP."
Other friends and colleagues expressed their sorrow as well. Sylvia Hamilton wrote, "How incredibly sad! Also never do an open house alone!" Erica Rose simply commented, "This is so so sad." Tamaya Hinke added, "Wowwww so scary," while Aleaha Manchester-Frigon said, "Oh my gosh, this is absolutely heartbreaking."
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Yuk-Ying Anita Mui’s death remains active. York Regional Police are expected to provide further updates soon, as the community and her family continue to seek answers and mourn the loss of a beloved realtor and community member.
