Granite City, IL – The community of Granite City is mourning the loss of Melodye Fagan, 69, who tragically passed away in a car accident on Tuesday. The accident occurred in Foster Township, near Godfrey, Illinois, where Fagan’s vehicle veered off the road, resulting in a fatal collision with a tree.
According to Stephen P. Nonn, the Madison County Coroner, Fagan was driving southbound on Interstate 255 in her 2009 Ford Escape when she lost control of the vehicle. The car went off the road, down a ditch, up a hill, and eventually hit a tree. Authorities reported that Fagan was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Despite the prompt arrival of emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Illinois State Police, along with the Madison County Coroner’s Office, are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The community is coming together to remember Fagan as a beloved member of Granite City.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Christine Miles shared, "This is the most heartbreaking post I’ll ever make. My mother, Melodye Fagan, passed away yesterday in a car accident. Our family is devastated and will miss her dearly but take comfort that she is reunited with her beloved husband, Michael Fagan." The post further invited friends and family to a Celebration of Life event on Sunday, August 25th, at the Granite City Aerie Eagles at 1 p.m.
The post was met with an outpouring of condolences and support from the community. Terry Long expressed, "So sorry for your loss," while James Embrey added, "Sending prayers for you and your family." Victoria Crook also shared, "Sending you so many prayers, love, and hugs."
