Foster Township, Illinois – On Tuesday afternoon, August 20, 2024, 69-year-old Melodye R. Fagan from Granite City tragically lost her life in a single-vehicle accident in Madison County. The incident occurred as Fagan was driving southbound on Interstate 255 near Foster Township, close to Godfrey, Illinois.
According to Madison County officials, Fagan was driving her 2009 Ford Escape when she suddenly veered off the roadway. Her vehicle descended into a ditch, ascended a hill, and ultimately collided with a tree. Authorities confirmed that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and arrived around 4 p.m. Unfortunately, Fagan was pronounced dead at the scene by officials. The Illinois State Police, in conjunction with the Madison County Coroner’s Office, is continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
