Morristown, NJ – The community is in mourning after the tragic death of Nigel Dumas, who was fatally stabbed on the subway a few days ago. The incident occurred on August 24, 2024, and despite being rushed to the hospital, Dumas was pronounced dead. He was only 33 years old.
Nigel Dumas, born on April 17, 1991, was a beloved member of his community and family. His untimely death has left many heartbroken, and a fundraiser has been organized by his brother, Kamau Dumas, to help cover the funeral and burial costs. As of today, $1,200 has been raised out of a $12,000 goal, with contributions coming from friends and well-wishers.
Kamau Dumas shared his deep sorrow on Facebook, expressing how much his brother meant to him and how proud he was of Nigel for continuing to fight through adversity. He also mentioned how Nigel’s nephew would always ask for "Uncle Nigel" and shared his heartbreak that they never had the chance to meet.
The news has prompted an outpouring of condolences and support from friends and family. Christopher Pooler expressed his "sincerest condolences," while Mckenzie King sent "so much love, prayers, and support." Chandra Dumas, Nigel’s aunt, also mourned her nephew, saying, "Rest Well nephew."
Others, like Cole Degidio and Fausto Henriquez, simply stated, "I’m so sorry for your loss" and "My condolences," respectively. Tanya Booker offered a heartfelt "RIP cousin," and many others, including Jeremy J. Robinson and Taj Logan, shared their prayers and sympathies.
A memorial celebration of Nigel’s life is planned for this Thursday in Morristown. The family has requested patience as they navigate this difficult time and work to respond to the overwhelming support they have received.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the fundraiser can do so, with all donations going toward covering the unexpected funeral and burial costs. The family is deeply grateful for any help during this challenging time.
