Mother Arrested in Corpus Christi After Tragic Death of 22-Month-Old Child Left in Hot Car at Tom Browne Middle School

Corpus Christi, Texas — Hilda Ann Adame has been arrested following the tragic death of her 22-month-old child, who was left in a hot car on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the parking lot of Tom Browne Middle School, leading to serious charges against Adame, including serious bodily injury to a child and child endangerment/abandonment with imminent bodily injury.

Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 1:29 p.m. after receiving reports of an unresponsive child in a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found a school nurse desperately performing CPR on the child, but despite these efforts, the baby could not be revived.

The exact duration the child was left in the vehicle remains unclear as the investigation continues. Adame was taken into custody at the scene, and the Corpus Christi Police Department is working to uncover the details surrounding this heartbreaking event.

In response to the tragedy, Corpus Christi ISD Chief Communications Officer Leanne Libby issued a statement expressing the district’s sorrow and support for those affected. “Corpus Christi ISD and school officials are aware of a young child being found in a hot car Tuesday at Tom Browne Middle School. We want to express our gratitude to those who swiftly responded upon learning of this crisis, including school staff as well as district police and local law enforcement,” the statement read. The district has arranged for crisis counselors to be available for students and staff, urging the community to offer compassion during this difficult time.

The news has deeply affected the community, with several individuals sharing their thoughts on Facebook. Leah Reynolds shared, "This tragic story is so hard, and I’m a mother of a 3-month-old & 7-year-old…with this heat, I hardly take my baby out of the house and totally understand everyone’s anger."
