North Charlotte Grieves After the Brutal Murder of 47-Year-Old Glandina Dixon at QuikTrip Gas Station

Charlotte, North Carolina – The community of North Charlotte is in shock and mourning after the brutal killing of 47-year-old Glandina Dixon. The tragic incident occurred on the night of Saturday, August 17, 2024, at a QuikTrip gas station located on Trailer Drive, near North Graham Street and Interstate 85.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), Glandina Dixon was followed into the gas station’s restroom by 53-year-old Sam Roary Jr., who then attacked her with a hammer. Surveillance footage captured the horrifying sequence of events. Dixon was seen entering the store and heading towards the restroom, followed closely by Roary. Moments later, Roary returned to his truck, retrieved a hammer, and re-entered the store, heading directly into the women’s restroom where the fatal assault took place.

A witness inside the restroom at the time of the attack called 911 at approximately 11:15 p.m., reporting disturbing noises and discovering Dixon bleeding on the floor. Despite the quick response from paramedics, Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene.

The attack lasted only about 40 seconds, yet its brutality has left a deep scar on the community. CMPD detectives later confirmed that Dixon and Roary knew each other, though the exact nature of their relationship remains unclear. The motive for the attack is still under investigation.

This senseless act of violence has left Dixon’s family devastated and searching for answers. When contacted by WCNC Charlotte, the family expressed that they were not yet ready to speak publicly about the tragedy.

The news of the attack has also shaken the local community. Many residents and customers of the gas station are grappling with the fear and disbelief that such violence could occur in a seemingly safe public place.

On Facebook, the community has begun to express their sorrow and condolences. Colette Ev wrote, “Was this road rage or something? This is so scary and sad!!! My condolences to her family!!” Another user, Calmon Shulterbrandt, added, “They were dating.”

The CMPD acted swiftly in apprehending Roary, who has since been charged with murder. However, as detectives continue to piece together the details of this tragic event, the community remains in mourning, grappling with the loss of a beloved member.

Glandina Dixon’s death is a stark reminder of the unpredictable and often tragic nature of violence, leaving behind a family and a community in search of justice and healing.
