Oconomowoc Resident Peter Roschtscha Dies in Tragic Amtrak Train Accident

Oconomowoc, Wisconsin – Peter Roschtscha, a well-known resident of Oconomowoc in his mid-70s, tragically lost his life in a train accident last Tuesday, August 20, 2024. The accident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. at a train crossing on Silver Lake Street.

According to reports, Roschtscha was riding his bicycle when he went around a crossing gate, ignoring the flashing lights and warning chimes of an approaching Amtrak train. The train struck him, leading to his death at the scene. The incident has been officially ruled an accident.

Peter Roschtscha was a familiar figure in the community, often seen biking around Oconomowoc. His passing has deeply saddened many who knew him.

Bob Ackerman commented, "For years and years I have seen this man bike around Oconomowoc. This is very sad and a terrible accident. My prayers and condolences to the family."

Other community members have also expressed their grief and extended their prayers to Roschtscha’s family. Roxanne Sitzberger shared, "Prayers for all involved and those who love them," while PaulaNfred StolzeNb added, "Prayers to the family."

The accident also caused significant disruptions to train services in the area. Amtrak Train 1333 was delayed by about three hours, and Train 8/28, which operates daily from Seattle and Portland to Chicago, experienced a delay of around 90 minutes. Several railroad crossings, including those at South Silver Lake Street, South Cross Street, South Main Street, and South Worthington Street, were temporarily closed as authorities conducted their investigation.

The community mourns the loss of Peter Roschtscha, a man who will be remembered for his presence in Oconomowoc and his love of cycling.
