Ottawa Community Mourns the Loss of Louise Kangok, Beloved Advocate for Inuit Medical Needs

Louise Kangok, Ottawa, Ontario – The Inuit community in Ottawa is grieving the loss of Louise Kangok, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 18th, 2024, at 8 a.m. Known for her tireless work advocating for the medical needs of Inuit and her role as an interpreter during their medical visits, Louise’s absence will be deeply felt by many.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established by Steven Carleton to help cover the costs of her cremation and memorial arrangements. The campaign, titled "In Loving Memory of Louise Kangok," aims to raise $3,500, with $450 already donated by generous contributors. Louise’s family, including her children Daniel, Kim, Jessie, and Jonah Kangok, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will benefit directly from these funds.

Louise was not only a community advocate but also a deeply spiritual person who held a strong love for Jesus. Despite the challenges she faced, her faith never wavered. She was known as a prayer warrior, caring deeply for the hearts of those around her.

The news of her passing has led to an outpouring of love and condolences on social media. Jessie Kangok expressed her sadness on Facebook, stating, "It is with great sadness the passing of my mom Louise Kangok on Aug 18 at 8 a.m. in her sleep. She will be missed."
