Pennsylvania Resident Margaret Daniel Dies in Tragic Route 1 Crash in Woolwich, Maine

Woolwich, Maine – Margaret Daniel, a 24-year-old resident of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, tragically lost her life in a car crash on Thursday evening, August 22, 2024, on Route 1 near Shaw Road and Weston Road in Woolwich.

The incident occurred when Daniel attempted to overtake several vehicles and collided head-on with an oncoming car. The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene just after 9 p.m., where Daniel was pronounced dead. The other driver, a 28-year-old man from Old Orchard Beach, sustained multiple fractures and was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland. He is currently reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities believe that speed may have contributed to the fatal accident. Route 1 was closed for approximately four hours as authorities conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.

The tragic death of Margaret Daniel has sparked reactions on social media, with many expressing their sorrow and concern over the incident. Elizabeth Starr posted on Facebook, "If we drive the speed limit, we should survive driving in our cars. Slow down. IMHO."

The investigation into the crash is ongoing as the community mourns the loss of a young life cut short.
