Rhinelander Community Grieves the Loss of Sean Ruge and Reflects on Cherished Memories

Champlin, MN – The Rhinelander community is deeply mourning the sudden and unexpected death of Sean Ruge, a beloved member of the community and a graduate of Rhinelander High School’s Class of 1986. Sean passed away on Saturday night, only a few months after the tragic loss of his son, Matthew Ruge, a dedicated police officer who was killed in the line of duty earlier this year.

Sean’s death has sent shockwaves through the community, as friends, family, and former classmates come together to remember him and support his surviving family members, including his daughter, Hannah Ruge, and his late son Matthew’s mother, Christi. The family has endured an exceptionally difficult year, and the community’s collective heart goes out to them during this time of profound grief.

Sean was remembered by those who knew him as a devoted father, a kind and generous soul, and a respected member of the Rhinelander community. His sudden passing has left a void that will be felt by many, and the circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation. Despite this, the focus remains on offering support and comfort to the family.

The community has rallied together, organizing gatherings and memorials to celebrate Sean’s life and contributions. Social media has also become a platform for friends and former classmates to share their memories and express their sorrow.

Christi Henke reflected on social media, saying, "Seeing these pictures from almost 30 years ago sure brings back some great memories… Sean and I, along with our good friends Paul and Nancy, moved out to Massachusetts because of a work transfer. Imagine Sean and Paul’s delight when there was a Packer Pub close by! Please continue to pray for Sean Ruge’s friends and family, and especially our daughter Hannah Ruge."

Others shared their heartfelt condolences, with Stacey Karkoc commenting, "My heart goes out to you and your daughter. Unimaginable grief. Be kind to yourself." Patti Neitzke remembered Sean, noting, "He had such a great smile." Mike Baxendale added, "Those were fun times for sure. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. So so sad."

The Rhinelander community continues to grieve the loss of Sean Ruge, with many finding solace in the shared memories and support that have come to the fore during this time of hardship. The strength and unity of the community are evident as they rally around Hannah and Christi, offering their prayers and love.
