Robert Windham Allen of Slidell, LA, Passes Away at 55 After Courageous Battle with Cancer

Slidell, Louisiana – Robert Windham Allen, a 55-year-old resident of Slidell, LA, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, after a brave and prolonged two-year battle with cancer. His passing marks the end of a life filled with dedication to his country, his community, and his loved ones.

A Life of Service and Dedication

Born on September 13, 1968, in Dothan, AL, Robert was the son of Marcie Rhinehart Allen and Robert Charles Allen. He was a proud graduate of O. Perry Walker High School in 1988 and later pursued higher education at Loyola University, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. His academic journey continued with the completion of a Master of Business Administration in Social Sciences in 2003 from the same institution.

Robert’s life was defined by service. He began his distinguished military career in 1988 with the United States Marine Corps and later joined the Louisiana National Guard in 1999. His military service included deployments in support of significant operations such as Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria. At the time of his passing, he held the position of Deputy Inspector General for Marine Forces Reserve/South in New Orleans and served as Battalion Commander of the 415th Military Intelligence Battalion for the Louisiana National Guard. His exemplary service was recognized posthumously with the Meritorious Service Medal, and he will be awarded the Legion of Merit.

Law Enforcement and Beyond

In addition to his military achievements, Robert also built a notable career in law enforcement. He began his law enforcement journey in 1992 with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and later served as an investigator with the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office. In 2016, he joined the Slidell Police Department, where he continued his remarkable career. His work extended internationally, serving with the United Nations Police Mission in Kosovo, as a counterintelligence special agent with the Department of Defense, and as a personal security specialist for the U.S. State Department’s Worldwide Person Protection Service in Israel and Afghanistan. Robert also shared his expertise as a Risk Management and Threat Assessment instructor at Tulane University’s School of Professional Advancement.

Remembering Robert

Robert Windham Allen is survived by his mother, Marcie Rhinehart of Dothan, AL; his brother, Robert C. Allen, and sister-in-law Sonya, of Montclair, VA; his nephew, Hunter Allen, and niece, Alyssa Allen, also of Montclair, VA. He is also survived by his longtime partner, Kelly Guerra, along with numerous cousins, adopted family members, and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his father, Col. Robert C. Allen of Eutawville, SC.

Known for his love of life, infectious laugh, and ever-present smile, Robert’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His dedication to his community and country, coupled with his vibrant personality, has left a lasting impact.

Memorial Services

Visitation for Robert Windham Allen will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, located at 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell, LA. The visitation will continue on Wednesday morning starting at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.

The funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 433 Erlanger Ave., Slidell, LA. Following the service, interment with full military honors will take place at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Road, Slidell, LA.
