Ron Krajewski, Acclaimed Artist and Air Force Veteran, Passes Away at 64 After Battle with Lung Disease and Cirrhosis

Ron Krajewski, a celebrated artist and United States Air Force veteran, passed away on August 23, 2024, at the age of 64, after a courageous battle with lung disease and cirrhosis. His passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, particularly his wife, Wendy Krajewski, with whom he shared 33 years of love and laughter.

Ron’s journey began in Seattle, Washington, where he was born into a family of fishermen. From a young age, he developed a deep connection to the sea, spending his summers on commercial salmon fishing boats in Alaska. This early experience instilled in him a strong work ethic and a profound appreciation for nature, traits that would define his life.

In 1985, Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for a decade. His time in the military included deployments to Saudi Arabia during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His bravery and dedication were recognized with the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Outstanding Unit Award.

After leaving the military in 1995, Ron discovered his passion for art. He built a successful online business, specializing in custom pet portraits that brought joy to countless pet owners. However, it was his relationship with Metro, a crippled racehorse, that truly defined his later years. Ron and Metro’s collaboration in creating art together not only captivated the world but also raised over $80,000 for Retired Racehorse Adoption, significantly boosting adoption rates.

Ron’s passing has been met with an outpouring of grief and condolences from friends, family, and admirers on social media. Wendy Krajewski shared her heartbreak on Facebook, expressing, "On Friday, Aug 23rd at 9:18 am, I lost my best friend, soulmate, and the man I spent 32 years with laughing and joking. He was the best husband I could ever wish for."

Many others have also shared their thoughts and memories. Diane Bigelow commented, "What an amazing person we have lost. Many many hugs for Wendy." Kristin C. Sabo expressed, "Rest in Peace, Ron." Maryann Lane shared, "When I see a beautiful sunset, I will imagine Ron and Metro painting it together."

Ron Krajewski’s legacy lives on through his art, his advocacy for retired racehorses, and the love he shared with those around him. He will be deeply missed, but his impact will continue to inspire.
