Chenoa Nickerson, a 33-year-old woman from Gilbert, Arizona, is currently missing after a flash flood swept through Havasu Creek in Grand Canyon National Park. The incident occurred on August 22, 2024, shortly before 1:30 p.m., when sudden flooding left several hikers stranded.
Nickerson, described as 5’8", 190 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes, was swept into Havasu Creek approximately 0.5 miles above the confluence with the Colorado River. According to reports, she was not wearing a life jacket at the time.
Rescue efforts were launched quickly, with the first search flight taking off before 3 p.m. on the day of the incident to assist stranded individuals both below and above Beaver Falls. As of now, Nickerson remains the only person unaccounted for from this flash flood.
The Grand Canyon community and beyond have shared their hopes for Nickerson’s safe return. On Facebook, Maria Vorheier commented, "Prayers for her and her loved ones." Another user, Jill Crosby Ironside, expressed concern about the challenging conditions in the area, saying, "It’s not an easy trek in spots even in favorable conditions. I am praying she is found safely!"
