Selma, Alabama – The Selma community is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of 16-year-old AuTerrious Walter, a sophomore at Selma High School, who passed away on Friday night. The news of his death has left a profound impact on the entire Selma City Schools community.
Superintendent Zickeyous Byrd announced AuTerrious Walter’s passing on social media, describing him as a "bright and promising" young man whose potential was evident to all who knew him. Byrd expressed that Walter’s absence would leave a significant void within the student body and emphasized the importance of the community coming together during this challenging time.
In response to this tragedy, Selma City Schools will offer counseling services next week to support students and staff as they cope with the loss. Byrd also requested that the privacy of Walter’s family be respected during this difficult period.
The outpouring of grief and support from the community has been evident on social media. CeCe Grayson shared on Facebook, "We weep! Our community is saddened at the loss this week of two young men, AuTerrious Walter (Selma High School) and Caden Tellier (Morgan Academy School). To say we understand is not true. But we reflect on the fact that even in the midst of pain, God is still Sovereign, and in this, we put our trust."
As the Selma community continues to mourn, the memory of AuTerrious Walter will undoubtedly remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
