Silverton, Oregon – Richard Lee Detherage, a 71-year-old resident of Silverton, tragically lost his life on Saturday, August 24, 2024, in a fatal motorcycle crash on Highway 224 near Estacada, Clackamas County. The accident occurred at approximately 12:38 p.m. when Detherage’s black Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a red Ford Focus.
The driver of the Ford Focus, identified as 55-year-old Daniel Lee Aragon of Estacada, was traveling eastbound on Highway 224 and attempted to make a left turn into a driveway. The car collided with Detherage’s motorcycle, which was traveling in the opposite direction, resulting in a severe crash. Despite the immediate response from emergency personnel, Detherage was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of his injuries.
The collision caused significant disruptions, leading to the closure of the highway for about three hours while authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. The Oregon State Police, with assistance from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the Estacada Fire District, and the Oregon Department of Transportation, are continuing to investigate the incident to determine any further necessary actions.
