Zaela was reported missing on August 25, 2018, after North Las Vegas police responded to a call regarding her disappearance from the 4600 block of Mission Cantina Avenue. Initially, the search for Zaela included her parents, Rick Beasley and Lakeia Walker, who were also missing. Authorities later discovered that the couple had been traveling across various states, including New Mexico, Texas, Illinois, West Virginia, and Tennessee, and even crossed the border into Tijuana, Mexico. Despite extensive investigations, the couple was found without Zaela in Houston, Texas, on November 17, 2018. Rick Beasley was arrested for an unrelated charge of vehicle theft, but both parents denied knowing Zaela’s whereabouts.
As the case unfolded, chilling details emerged. Law enforcement officials uncovered evidence suggesting that Zaela was no longer alive and that both parents were implicated in her death. Disturbingly, Rick Beasley’s mother, La Tonya Johnson, recalled a night when she was awakened by a loud thud and saw Rick carrying a crying Zaela.
