Sonia del Carmen Romero Cubias Passes Away at 70 After Year-Long Battle with Terminal Cancer in San Pablo, CA

San Pablo, CA – Sonia del Carmen Romero Cubias, a beloved mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law, passed away on August 26, 2024, at the age of 70 after a courageous year-long battle with terminal cancer. Sonia’s strength and resilience were evident as she fought against the disease, even after being diagnosed with a brain tumor and later with terminal blood cancer.

Sonia’s journey began last July when she suffered a fall, leading to the discovery of a cancerous tumor in her brain. Despite undergoing emergency surgery, further tests revealed that the cancer had spread to her blood, with doctors giving her only three months to a year to live. Despite these challenges, Sonia remained strong and continued to fight with a smile on her face, never showing the immense pain she was enduring.

In the final months of her life, Sonia was bedridden, reliant on the care provided by her children as the disease slowly destroyed her organs. On the morning of August 26, she lost her battle with cancer, passing away peacefully.

Her daughter, Roxana Gómez, has organized a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover the funeral and cemetery expenses, seeking support from the community during this difficult time. Roxana shared the story of her mother’s strength and love, asking for help in overcoming the financial burden of the funeral costs.

The family expresses their gratitude for any assistance and hopes to honor Sonia’s memory by ensuring she receives the respectful farewell she deserves.
