Stamford Mourns the Loss of Retired Fire Chief Anthony J. Milone, A Pillar of the Community

Stamford, CT – The Stamford community is mourning the loss of retired Fire Chief Anthony J. Milone, who passed away at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family. Known affectionately as Tony, he was a respected leader and a beloved figure in the city, dedicating more than three decades of his life to the Stamford Fire Department.

Born on March 9, 1938, in Stamford, Tony developed a passion for carpentry at a young age, honing his skills at J.M. Wright Technical School. His craftsmanship was well-known, and his ability to build anything was a testament to his dedication and talent.

Tony’s distinguished career with the Stamford Fire Department began with his entry into the force, where he quickly made a name for himself through hard work and dedication. Rising through the ranks, he was appointed as Stamford Fire Chief in 1998, a role in which he served with honor until his retirement on July 1, 2000. His leadership left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the entire community.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tony’s life was centered around his family. He was married to his beloved wife, Marguerette, for 64 years, and together they raised three sons. Tony’s love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, from playing golf to enjoying time in his yard or socializing with friends.

After retiring, Tony and Marguerette fulfilled their dream of living in Apache Junction, Arizona, where they spent over 20 years under the scenic backdrop of the Superstition Mountains. In 2021, Tony returned to Connecticut, where he cherished the time spent with his family and enjoyed the East Coast breeze.

Tony is survived by his three sons, Anthony Jr. (Dana), Theodore (Lynn), and Emil (Alma), as well as his five grandchildren and great-grandson, who were his pride and joy. He is also remembered by his sister, Grace Guarnieri, and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Tony was predeceased by his wife, brother, and many close friends who were like family to him.

In 2023, Tony became a resident of the Bridges by EPOCH Memory Care facility in Trumbull, CT, where he received exceptional care during his final years. His family has expressed deep gratitude for the compassionate support provided by the staff, especially Kendra.

A Celebration of Life funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Church in Monroe, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Anthony’s name to the Stamford Firefighters Local 786 Burn Foundation.

Tony Milone’s legacy of service, love, and dedication will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. His life was a true testament to his unwavering commitment to his family, community, and profession.
