Thomas Checkley of Marcellus, Michigan, Passes Away After Battle with Cancer – Family Seeks Support for Funeral Costs

Marcellus, Michigan – Thomas Checkley, a well-known resident of Marcellus, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones in his final moments, with his children Heather and Brandon by his side.

Thomas, affectionately known as Tom, was a hardworking man who was never idle, always finding ways to keep busy, whether in his garage or enjoying the outdoors. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his two children and six grandchildren, who now face the challenging task of covering funeral expenses during this difficult time.

A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Joshua Courtney to assist with the funeral and family costs. The fundraiser, which began today, has so far raised $605 out of a $10,000 goal, with contributions from community members such as Kimberly Spalding, who donated $250, and Whitney Phillips, who contributed $300.

The family has received an outpouring of support on social media. Ashley Caruthers posted, "My uncle Tom passed away today after a battle with cancer. He was a great man and his family needs help with funeral costs."

Others, like Joni Fester, expressed their condolences, writing, "I am so sorry to hear this," while Crystal Hodge Hetchler added, "So sorry to hear this Heather Courtney and Brandon Checkley. I wish I could give more. You have my thoughts and prayers, also."

Stephanie Jane Howard also shared her grief, stating, "I am so very sorry for your loss. Tom was a good man. Sending my prayers and love to you and your family." Brittany Howard reminisced, "So sorry!! So many memories with him growing up over there! Sending love & prayers to everyone."

The loss of Tom Checkley has deeply affected those who knew him, with Faith King expressing, "This breaks my heart so much. Sending all my love to the family. Tom was an awesome guy!! Lots of great memories… he will be so deeply missed."

As the community comes together to remember and support the Checkley family, contributions to the GoFundMe are being encouraged to help alleviate the financial burden during this trying time.
