Summerton, South Carolina – The community of North Charleston is mourning the loss of 51-year-old Vegas Poinsette, who tragically lost his life in a fatal car accident on Interstate 95 on Thursday afternoon, August 22. The accident occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m., about four miles south of Summerton.
Vegas Poinsette was driving a Dodge pickup truck southbound on Interstate 95 when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered off the roadway, overturned, and collided with a tree. Sadly, Poinsette, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Authorities are examining whether factors such as speed, weather conditions, or mechanical failure may have contributed to the crash. An autopsy is scheduled to provide further insights into the incident.
The accident caused significant traffic disruptions, with emergency responders closing sections of the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 to manage the crash site. Traffic was redirected as first responders and investigators worked diligently at the scene.
